Job Summary
As the Assistant Controller, you will support the Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of properties. You will assist with month-end close, financial statement preparation and review, reconciliations, and audit support while helping maintain strong internal controls and accurate reporting.
This role requires hands-on property accounting experience, strong attention to detail (including small variances), working knowledge of Yardi, and the ability to collaborate effectively across accounting, asset management, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in overseeing accounting operations for a portfolio of real estate assets, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
- Prepare and review journal entries, reclasses, accruals, and month-end close schedules.
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
- Perform and review bank reconciliations, cash activity, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Monitor property-level financial performance and assist with variance analysis and budget tracking.
- Support internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation and responding to requests.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company accounting policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with property management and asset management teams to resolve accounting issues and improve processes.
- Assist in training and supporting property accountants as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- 2–3 years of experience in real estate or property management accounting required.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and property-level accounting principles.
- Experience preparing journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and assisting with month-end close.
- Working knowledge of Yardi property management software required.
- Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, professional approach.
- High level of integrity and accountability.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Prior experience as a Senior Accountant, Property Accountant, or similar role preferred.
- Experience with multifamily or commercial real estate portfolios strongly preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
